The Best Drummer

The Rev (born James Owen Sullivan February 10, 1981, short for The Reverend Tholomew Plague) is the drummer for Avenged Sevenfold.

The Rev attended a Catholic school with A7X lead singer M. Shadows, but was kicked out in 2nd grade.

His first record was released when he was at the age of 18. He also has a side project with A7X guitarist Synyster Gates, as well as members from surf-punk band Ballistico, called Pinkly Smooth, in which he sings lead, instead of drumming. His stage name in this band is Rat Head. He was formerly the drummer for third-wave ska band Suburban Legends. Two of his favorite bands are Rancid and Transplants.

As for drumming, he's sponsored by DW, Evans, Promark and Sabian.

The Rev's influences are Vinnie Paul (Pantera), Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) and Paul Bostaph (Slayer).

He has said that he has 6 different cars, one for all but one day of the week. Ironically, he used to live in a car, and at another time lived in a Laundromat, where he worked during the day, and slept at night.

He is engaged to a girl named Leana. He has been arrested 7 times, although only for incidences such as bar fights.

DRUMMER zONE

A drummer is a person who plays drums, particularly a drum kit ("drum set" or "trap set", which will also include cymbals), marching percussion or hand drums. The term percussionist applies to a musician performing on any percussion instrument, but usually refers to one who plays classical or Latin percussion. Most bands for Rock, Pop, Jazz, R&B etc. include a drummer in their lineup, who conveys the rhythm of the music by using the drums of the drum kit to play the beat of the song, which is repeated in every bar, with added drum fills, particularly just before changes in the song.

Some such drummers are session musicians and are not fixed to a particular band, working with various musical acts. Though percussion notation is some times used, many drummers create and memorise the drum beats themselves without songwriting credit. Drum beats vary in speed, volume and complexity depending on the genre of music, but are normally designed to lay down the rhythm and drive the music along. Drummers usually work with a bassist to make up a rhythm section.

powerpop band

Power pop (or powerpop) is a popular musical genre that draws its inspiration from 1960s British and American pop and rock music. It typically incorporates a combination of musical devices such as strong melodies, crisp vocal harmonies, economical arrangements, and prominent guitar riffs. Instrumental solos are usually kept to a minimum, and blues elements are largely downplayed. Recordings tend to display production values that lean toward compression and a forceful drum beat. Instruments usually include one or more electric guitars, an electric bass guitar, a drum kit, and sometimes electric keyboards or synthesizers. While its cultural impact has waxed and waned over the decades, power pop is among rock's most enduring subgenres.
